    Army Reserve Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Talley was confirmed by the Senate for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as the Chief of the Army Reserve and Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command.

    “Unless I look in the mirror, I just consider myself a female,” said an employee in the U.S. Army Human Resources Command’s Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, Office. “I just consider myself an American female with a military background, and I don’t feel any different from anyone else. I also feel like I’m not singled out negatively or even positively based on having an Asian background.”

    The 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) officially took command of the Joint Sustainment Command - Afghanistan (JSC-A) during a transfer of authority at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, Monday.
    The 3rd ESC, based out of Fort Knox, took over operations from the 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), which is headquartered at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and commanded by Brig. Gen. Les Carroll.

    May 3 marked a momentous occasion when the Fort Knox School Age Center was named after the late Donna Jean Kirby – a nurturer, mother, gardener, teacher and leader.
    Although many of the kids who attend the center weren’t born when Kirby passed, they will forever be reminded of the center’s namesake when they pass the outside memorial and photo that’s hanging inside the center.

  • French pins on first star at ceremony in theater

    3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Public Affairs
    Col. Kristin French, commander of the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), was promoted to brigadier general during a ceremony at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, Sunday.
    French, who took over as commander of the 3rd ESC in June of 2011, was promoted during the ceremony by Maj. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, commanding general of the U.S. Army Sustainment Command. French and the 3rd ESC deployed to Afghanistan last month and assumed the duties of Joint Sustainment Command - Afghanistan (JSC-A).

    For the third time in as many years Fort Knox has participated and been recognized by the Army Communities of Excellence program.
    The installation received the Bronze Award in 2009 along with $250,000, an honorable mention last year and an Exemplary Practice Award for 2011 which garnered $25,000 for the installation.

    Maj. Gen. McDonald to relinquish command to Brig Gen. Smith
    Fort Knox PAO
    The Department of the Army announced Friday that Maj. Gen. Mark McDonald, commanding general of U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox, will move to Oklahoma to lead the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, with Brig. Gen. Jefforey Smith taking his place.
    The Fort Knox change of command will be April 6 at 3 p.m. 
    McDonald has led U.S. Army Cadet Command and the Army’s Senior and Junior ROTC programs since November 2010.

    Most of us who work at Fort Knox have probably said the same thing when realizing that the driver in front of us at the entry gate doesn’t have a vehicle registration sticker on his car, and needs to go to a different gate or lane in order to get a pass. It’s gonna’ take a few minutes out of your day, at a time when you usually don’t have a lot of time or patience to spare.

    When a Family member has an illness or disability, sometimes Soldiers aren’t aware that the Exceptional Family Member Program is available to assist and provide the proper resources that are needed.
    Although the program was formulated in the 1970s, Fort Knox’s EFMP has expanded to include the systems navigator position to ensure Families receive the proper care.
