    Even the most carefully considered and chosen words fail to capture the visceral reaction inspired by a great photograph, and such is certainly the case with the 2011 U.S. Army Photo of the Year taken by Sgt. Breanne Pye, a public affairs noncommissioned officer, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carsom, Colo.

  • Army Field Band focuses on outreach in 2012

    The United States Army Field Band wasted no time kicking off 2012. As the New Year began, 22 Soldiers from the unit traveled to San Antonio, where they worked as mentors, coaches, and advisors to 125 high school band students, hand-picked to perform as part of the All American Marching Band.
    But that was just the first week of the new year—there is so much more to come.

    The Speed Art Museum presents Brown-Forman Art After Dark: redgreenblue tomorrow from 7 until 11 p.m. (family-friendly fun until 9 p.m.) Art After Dark is an evening of museum-wide art, music and performance that invites visitors of all ages to experience the Speed like never before.
    The evening’s lineup includes Rush and Roulette, a live, rapid execution of the second dimension by five artists: Jacob Heustis, Russel Hulsey, Monica Mahoney, Daniel Pfalzgraf and Letitia Quesenberry.

  • State Parks offering April camping discounts

    Kentucky State Parks are offering a 20 percent discount on camping reservations made for April 1-26.
    To get the discount, campers need to make online reservations at www.parks.ky.gov. Look for the “reservations” tab at the top of the page and use the promotion code APR12.
    The Kentucky State Parks will also be offering two nights’ camping for the price of one during Camper Appreciation Weekend, April 27-28. Many parks will be holding special events for campers that weekend.
