MAJ. GEN. MARK MCDONALD, COMMANDER OF CADET COMMAND and Fort Knox, cut the ribbon on the Tax Center Friday, the first day clients were scheduled to be seen. Operated with the support and oversight of the Fort Knox Judge Advocate General, the tax center is manned by Soldiers and civilian volunteers who have all been trained by the Internal Revenue Service and passed certification tests. Last year, the tax center saved taxpayers more than $1.2 million in preparation fees. “It’s a perfect example of the Army taking care of its own,” said the general. The tax center – located in the basement of Pike Hall — charges no fee for preparing tax returns and all military ID cardholders are eligible for the services.
